On January 1st 1935 there were under training the following

this leaves three vacancies which are now filled.

The total hours flown up to December 1934, was 421 hours 20

minutes.

Ground training suffered somwhat during 1934 due to the

following reasons:-

(1) There was not in existence a regular Air Arm Unit, i.e. all pilots remained with their own particular unit, and naturally

attended their particular units training etc.

An Air Unit is being formed in order to release air Arm

personnel from their regular units, thus allowing the pilots full

time for concentration on Air and Ground training.

(2) Extensive ground training will be commenced immediately the full complement of Volunteers have been selected, this training will

conform as early as practicable to that laid down for the Annual Training of Officers of the Royal Air Force Reserve.

RAILWAY OPERATING DETACHMENT CADRE.

This Cadre has been divided into two Sections:

1. Operating Section.

2. Construction Section.

The Operating Section consists of trained railwaymen who are fully conversant with their duties in times of emergency. Recruitment started in January and the Section was at full strength in February.

The Section is sub-divided into two branches - Traffic and Locomotive

co-ordinated by Headquarters control. Each of these branches is

commanded by an Officer.

The Construction Section is at present at 55,3 full strongth.
